Ms Westwater-Wood, a community paediatric physiotherapist and lecturer at the University of Nottingham, received the news on the eve of the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists’ (APCP) annual conference, held in Newcastle on 13 November.

‘It was a real buzz when I heard the news,’ she said.

‘I’d been waiting to hear about my application for a few months and I was sitting in the pre-conference national committee meeting when the email came in.’

The news was shared with everyone as part of CSP chair Catherine Pope’s keynote speech at the conference.

Ms Westwater-Wood, an ACPC national committee member, has previously won the University of Nottingham’s Lord Dearing Award three times for excellence in teaching practice.

She told Frontline: ‘If we want the highest quality experience for students that inspires them to be the best they can be as paediatric physiotherapists, they need to have educators that demonstrate professional development activity not just in paediatric physiotherapy but also in education.

‘We need more people to shout about paediatric physiotherapy.’
