Welcome to Frontline, with special contributions from our students and recent graduates
I’m Hannah O’Neill, a new graduate from Ulster University and a member of the CSP’s Student Reference Group (SRG), and it’s my pleasure to introduce this special student edition of Frontline.
I would like to begin by wishing all members happiness when celebrating the postponed Pride events this month, and give a big welcome to pre-registration students starting this term all over the UK.
Highlighted in this month’s main feature is advice qualified physios would give their past student self. On completion of my BSc physiotherapy degree, and acceptance of my band 5 post at Northern Health and Social Care Trust in NI, I reflect on my time as a student and think about all the trials and tribulations of student life.
If given the chance, I would have told ‘first year student me’ to leap at every opportunity to learn and grow – whether that be on placement or through the CSP. I also acknowledge the importance of both preparation and opportunity.
Also in this issue, student member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Antoine Awad, shares his reflections from the previous year, and Brighton student Laura Mitchell illustrates the value of visualising reflections to help one’s own learning here.
To all new physio students, there is plenty to get involved in. Check out your CSP regional and diversity networks to find out more. I am also pleased to announce that the new SRG begin their roles this month.
I urge you to follow @thecspstudents on Twitter and Instagram and, once a member, subscribe to the Students iCSP forum to network with your peers.
Social media is just one of the ways to network and influence, whatever your career stage. In our feature 'Using Influence', the CSP highlights some quick and effective ways to influence decision-makers and promote your work.
Finally, I must say a big thank you to all my fellow members of last year’s SRG for their hard work and the passion they showed for the future of our beloved profession.
