Developments within the profession mean we must all strive to stay ahead in 2025, says the CSP’s CEO John Cowman
Welcome to February’s Frontline. I do hope you have settled into the new year, that you can see its opportunities and are ready for its inevitable challenges.
I am very pleased that this issue features articles on LGBT+ History Month. This is an area of equity and diversity that is important to me, and I hope to all of you.
We break down our recently published guidance on working with transgender people in physiotherapy practice to show how to use it in order to treat transgender patients appropriately and fairly. We also interview specialist neuro physio Shannon Pinnington, who sat on the working group responsible for the guidance.
This month, we also explore the role and impact of exercise professionals and the challenge for physios working in prisons. These highlight the diversity of our profession and the need to work with others in delivering the very best support for the populations we serve.
I would also inspire you all to visit Change NHS and participate in the consultation about the future of the NHS in England. This is a vital juncture where our influence should be brought to the fore. In my conversations with those leading this work, it is clear they want to hear from as many professionals as possible and I trust that they are listening to your views.
After a year at the CSP, I am clear on the work we need to do to ensure that you – our members – feel the organisation is working for you and with you, and that our endeavours are helping you to feel part of the physiotherapy community. This is paramount alongside continuing to influence the agendas across all four countries and all sectors of our profession. I look forward to sharing more of this with you in the coming months.
