5 reasons to study this programme at Leeds Beckett University

  • We are proud of our 75 year history of teaching physiotherapy in Leeds. You will be part of a small course with friendly staff in a city-centre campus that has a purpose-built clinical skills suite.

  • Course design: We enable you to build upon your previous academic and personal knowledge and skills by utilising a problem-based learning approach. All modules have high contact hours with small module teaching teams. We ensure that you study all core content before practice placement learning. We invite a broad range of specialist clinicians and service users to input into our teaching in order to enhance your learning. Our Visiting Professors are Karen Middleton CBE (Chief Executive of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) and Andrew Walton (Executive Chair of Connect Health).

  • Teaching staff: Staff are clinical experts from a variety of backgrounds: NHS, private health sector and sports to reflect the broad range of clinical specialities across the age range and clinical settings. All physiotherapy staff have teaching qualifications and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

  • Placements: You will carry out a minimum of 1,000 hours of clinical placement experience under the supervision of experienced physiotherapists. The six 5-week placements are in and around Leeds and organised on your behalf. These are mainly in our two city-based Teaching Hospitals, community settings, charities, sports settings and schools. However, one of these placements is an elective placement that you organise for yourself. This may be local, national or international.

  • Research: Staff incorporate their publications and conference presentations into classroom teaching.

Following a research skills and research proposal module in Year 1 you will undertake your own empirical research in Year 2 and present findings at the end of a course student-led research conference.
