Editor's comment: what did you do on Workout at Work Day?

Almost 1,000 CSP members took part in Workout at Work Day last Friday. What did you do, asks Frontline managing editor Lynn Eaton.

They made sure this year’s event, which raises awareness about the importance of good physical and mental health in the workplace, was a resounding success.

In sessions held across the UK, more than 900 members showcased the importance of public health and occupational health and proved that physio staff can design stimulating activities that benefit everyone.

Events like this, and members’ involvement in Older people’s day on 1 October, help get the physiotherapy works message across to the public, NHS managers and commissioners.

But it’s also about practising what you preach. One CSP member, Esther Hartsilver, will be remembered for doing just that. Sadly she lost her life while cycling to work (see page 8). We all hope that tragedy will reinforce the calls for safer cycle routes. But you don’t need to cycle – why not get off the bus a stop early or take a walk at lunchtime?

Here at the CSP’s London office, physios held a stress-busting mindfulness seminar as one way to celebrate W@WD. Despite it coinciding with a frenetic press day many of the team managed to go along ... and we hope this issue is all the better for it!

You can see pictures from the day.
