Comment: crossing the divide

A  team of CSP staff recently, and for the first time, attended a conference of social services directors, writes Frontline managing editor Lynn Eaton

Their aim? To draw directors’ attention to how physiotherapy can help vulnerable older people, primarily in reducing the risk of falling.

Sadly, it’s not often that the worlds of health and social care come together in this way. But now and again there are chinks of daylight – those light bulb ‘now I get it’ moments – when the two worlds start to talk the same language.

Moments when a social services director understands how providing a falls clinic could help reduce their council’s spend on residential care
Or when physiotherapists step out of their traditional health model to promote their skills to  someone working in local government.

The more every single member of the CSP does to increase the general understanding of what physiotherapy can achieve, the better. Why not come to a Physiotherapy Works local event to find out how your can help? See page 48 for more details.
