- The practice placements use the ‘hub and spoke’ model with each student completing one placement in each of the core themes of musculoskeletal, neurological/rehabilitation and cardio-respiratory care. The number of spokes and the time spent in each varies, depending on the experience which can be gained. This model allows greater flexibility for placement provision, as well as giving the student a more varied clinical experience as well as developing transferable skills such as adaptability and flexibility. In order to maintain support and contact with the student the professional practice placement blocks comprise four days full-time in the placement with one day per week in the university.
- The programme adopts a student centred approach to the delivery of the content. There is great emphasis placed on technology enhanced learning including; interactive lectures, group tutorials, problem-based learning, practical group work, student presentations, podcasts, wikis and self-study packages.. To support this approach and to maximise student learning, all students are issued with an iPad to access online resources both on and off campus.
- Small cohorts mean that students receive excellent academic and pastoral support. The University is in an excellent geographical location, which means that all placements are commutable in a day with no extra accommodation costs required.
- An employability skills assessment is embedded across all three years of the programme. In addition, the final year curriculum provides a variety of preparatory work for job applications assisting students in enhancing their career prospects.
- Located in a School of Health Sciences provides greater opportunities for shared learning activities with a range of other health professional students in all three years of the programme. This helps to develop an understanding of each other's roles and fosters collaborative working practice.
