Engaging with the HCPC

Whether it is practice standards, artificial intelligence (AI) or data, we work with the regulator for the betterment of physiotherapy and the CSP

The CSP is no longer the regulator of physiotherapy – which was part of its role historically – with the role now filled by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). As the regulator, its work has significant impact on members – requiring us to have a close working relationship to ensure we get the best for you.

I attend regular HCPC professional body forums with our AHP colleagues, which in recent months have included topics such as AI, advanced practice regulation and data.

I have presented to the HCPC on the changing demographics and health of the UK now and into the future. We also contribute to regular equality, diversity and inclusion forums.

We’ve ensured that all new international registrants receive information on the CSP as they join the HCPC register, ensuring we can help to drive practice and standards and protect international registrants as early in their UK journey as possible.

On education, the HCPC accredits institutions and the CSP accredits programmes to ensure improved, contemporary standards are maintained within the physiotherapy curricular.

On their side, the HCPC is keen to engage with AHPs more closely and has recently established a professional liaison service to provide additional support to registrants and professional adviser Clare Aldridge gives an overview of what it offers

Finally, this month updated HCPC standards for registrants come into effect.
