Ugwueze Nwafor is this year’s winner of the Rep of the Year – outstanding contribution to equality in the workplace
Ugwueze, a dedicated physiotherapist at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, is this year’s winner for promoting equality and diversity within physiotherapy across Wales.
His commitment has been demonstrated by his active participation in the Wales rep network and the Welsh race equality group. As a leading member of these groups, he not only contributes valuable insights but also implements progressive changes in the workplace.
Ugwueze’s initiatives have significantly impacted his local health board, notably by removing the NHS experience requirement from job descriptions, thereby broadening opportunities for a diverse range of candidates. This change has led to an increase in international recruits, enhancing the diversity and cultural competence of the health board.
His influence has also been shown beyond recruitment. He has played a pivotal role in supporting international recruits, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued within the profession, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Ugwueze is instrumental in advocating for equality to be on physiotherapy management’s priority list, pushing for policies that prioritise fairness and inclusivity. This work has had a ripple effect across Wales and has set a benchmark for others to follow.
Our Rep of the Year awards are announced each year at the CSP’s Annual Representative Conference to highlight the tireless work of our trade union stewards, safety and equality reps. Inspired?
