Physiotherapy staff in England had no choice but to strike again last month, following the government’s refusal to hold meaningful talks over NHS pay
Nearly 9,000 physiotherapy staff have now participated in strike action across 63 English healthcare trusts as part of the CSP’s ongoing dispute around the pay award given to NHS staff on the Agenda for Change pay scale.
Members’ calls for a resolution to the dispute have been echoed by NHS Providers, the NHS Confederation, and chief nurses.
The unprecedented strike in England came as new polling, conducted by Opinium in January, showed that 56 per cent of the public backed strike action by physiotherapy staff against just 25 per cent who opposed it.*
Further collective action can now be expected if the government continues to refuse to enter meaningful talks over the 2022/23 pay award.

*The Opinium poll was carried out between 20-24 January and the sample was 2,000 UK adults.
