Helping CSP reps ensure that the health and safety of pregnant members.
The CSP has produced this toolkit in conjunction with Maternity Action, the UK’s maternity rights charity dedicated to promoting, protecting, and enhancing the rights of all those who are pregnant, new mothers and their families to employment, health care and social security.
The toolkit, which has been produced with support from the Trades Union Congress, is designed to help CSP reps ensure that the health and safety of its members who are pregnant is protected from the moment the rep becomes aware that a member is pregnant to their return to work and beyond.
The workplace presents very specific risks for those who are pregnant or who have recently given birth. These risks are preventable and crucially there are clear regulations in place to protect new and expectant mothers. Unfortunately many employers either do not know what they should be doing or ignore their legal responsibilities.
CSP reps have such a vital role to play in providing information and support to pregnant members and new mothers, ensuring that they understand their rights and that the employer does everything necessary to protect the health of them and their babies.
