The CSP has welcomed a ‘mythbuster’ from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as a ‘critical milestone’ which provides clarity to the recruitment of First Contact Practitioners (FCPs).
The document from the independent regulator of health and social care in England describes the responsibilities for providers when recruiting and managing staff deployed in FCP roles in primary care roles.
It covers the provision of external regulation around FCP employment, training and day to day clinical supervision.
Roadmap
The FCP roadmap was introduced last year by Health Education England to provide a robust national governance framework.
CSP assistant director Susan Hayward-Giles said: ‘We welcome this critical milestone from the CQC, essentially mandating the use of the roadmap, which will strongly promote consistency in practice standards across England as physiotherapists develop FCP roles.’
Amanda Hensman-Crook, Health Education England allied health professions national clinical fellow and MSK subject matter expert, welcomed the document.
Governance
‘Having governance around proof of capability through academic learning and application of that knowledge into practice is a significant move to ensure patient safety and clinical excellence at the front of the care pathway.’
She added: ‘We are very grateful for CQC’s support of the roadmaps.’
