New campaign urging pregnant women to get boosted now

The CSP is backing a campaign urging pregnant women 'don't wait to take the vaccine' and highlighting the risks of Covid-19 to mother and baby, and the benefits of vaccination.

The society has joined forces with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) to highlight the serious risks of catching Covid-19 and the benefits the vaccines bring to protecting both mothers and their babies.

The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows Covid-19 vaccinations provide strong protection for pregnant women against the virus. It also shows the vaccines are safe for pregnant women, with similar birth outcomes for those who had the vaccine and those who had not.

CSP policy director Rob Yeldham said: ‘We fully support the right of women to choose whether or not to be vaccinated but I can think of no better source of advice for pregnant women than midwives.

Their advice is clear, vaccination is safe for pregnant woman and their babies. Vaccination does not affect fertility either.

‘So the CSP fully endorses the advice of our RCM colleagues and urges members who are pregnant or trying for a baby to seek vaccination.’
