Key role in Wales taken by Associate member

As well as this volunteer role, Sheryl has a full time job as a senior physiotherapy technician at Caerphilly Resource Team. 

‘As we approach the end of 2021, what a year! I have thoroughly enjoyed the many new experiences gained with CSP Wales and l am now excited to be taking the role of Welsh Board chair. 

‘I am learning a lot about myself along this exciting new path, and reflecting on what I have achieved since being asked to present in 2017 at the CSP Welsh Board. The fantastic CSP Welsh Board team do amazing work representing the Welsh voice of physiotherapy across the UK and I have the privilege to work alongside every one of them.  

‘It is so important that physiotherapy support workers have a voice too and that it is included and valued in Welsh Government healthcare service planning. As I believe so strongly in this here in Wales I have built a network of CSP associate members representing each of the seven health boards within Wales. This is so that I can link in with them and then feed information back to CSP Welsh Board.
 
‘I would like to see more opportunities for physiotherapy support workers to progress in Wales, I don’t feel we’ve kept pace with developments in the other countries, particularly in England. I would like to see the roll out of the Wales level 4 therapy assistant practitioner apprenticeship along with other opportunities to progress such as to band 5 in the NHS.’

On the recent webinar for physiotherapy support workers titled New horizons what’s possible for our support workforce beyond band 4, which Sheryl chaired, Claire Fordham told delegates about a number of new band 5 roles for support workers in England. 

Sheryl commented: ‘Hearing what is possible was very encouraging. Also, not forgetting how much patients are going to benefit from these fantastic roles and I would like to see their development in Wales too.’
