Top gongs for physios in King’s honours list 

Darren Brown, honorary clinical academic physiotherapist, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Trust, receives an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the NHS and people living with HIV and AIDS, and people with Long Covid.

Rakesh Kumar, clinical specialist physio at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, became a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

Darren said: ‘Receiving British Orders of Chivalry is a profound honour that celebrates dedication, perseverance and excellence. I am truly humbled to be acknowledged in this way, for my work in disability and rehabilitation across HIV and Long Covid.

‘I am immensely proud to join the ranks of those who have made life better for other people, are outstanding at what they do, and make significant contributions to our society.

‘I am deeply grateful for this recognition. It ignites my passion to continue growing, elevating others, and striving for excellence in all that I do.

‘Thank you to those who nominated me and all who supported, uplifted, and nourished me throughout my life and career. This achievement would not be possible without the encouragement and efforts of many people.’

Rakesh said: ‘This is truly an unexpected honour. I'm incredibly grateful to those who nominated me for my work with the BAME community.

‘It was a humbling surprise to learn about the MBE. It means a lot to know that my efforts are making a difference.’

On his motivation and impact, Rakesh said: ‘Helping others has always been my passion, and this award motivates me to keep working towards a more inclusive healthcare system.

‘I hope this MBE inspires other physiotherapists to get involved in community outreach and support marginalised groups.’

He added: ‘This recognition isn't just about me – it's about the importance of supporting BAME communities and ensuring everyone has access to quality healthcare.’
