Over 4200 CSP members - employed by 30 NHS trusts across England - will be called to strike on 26 January
Following this day, a second day of strikes at an additional 30 trusts will follow on 9 February as part of the ongoing dispute over pay and retention.
The CSP will announce further dates in England and Wales if no improved offer is forthcoming from the respective governments.
The planned industrial action, called by CSP Council, follows the CSP achieving mandates to strike in 119 NHS employers across England through ballots held at the end of last year, with a second wave closing this month.
All eight health boards in Wales have also secured a strike mandate.
The CSP participated in talks with the government earlier this week but the lack of a concrete offer means there is currently no option but to announce strike action.
Claire Sullivan, CSP director of employer relations and union servicesWe know taking strike action is an absolute last resort for CSP members, but NHS staff not only deserve better pay but also desperately need it during this cost of living crisis. This dispute will protect patient services both now and into the future, and it’s essential that the government comes up with an improved offer to avert further strikes and demonstrate they understand the scale of the problem.
Frequently asked questions about industrial action
Why is industrial action planned for 30 trusts instead of all coming out at once?
CSP Council has agreed a rolling programme of strike days, with two announced now and a further two likely to be announced later in February and March if the dispute continues.
This allows us to keep the profile of industrial action by CSP members at the forefront without asking members to individually take more than one day of action at this stage.
It also allows us to provide more support for members and stewards on each day.
When will members at my employer be called to strike?
We will announce the group of Trusts where strike action is taking place at least 14 days before each day of action. It is a legal requirement that we have to give employers fourteen days notice.
What will the physio service look like on the day we are striking?
We intend to maintain an emergency respiratory on call service throughout any days of strike action.
This is in line with our commitment to always provide 'critical to life' services.
Who can I get in touch with for more information on the planned industrial action at my trust?
Please get in touch with your local steward for plans on the day and for specific questions please read our FAQs.
What happens to members who voted for action short of strike but not to strike?
At the moment we are focusing on industrial action. However we will be considering the different ways we may be able to use the mandate of action short of strike in the future.
How do I show my support for colleagues taking strike action?
The CSP will give members a range of solidarity actions and resources, the week beginning 16 January, to help you to show support for your colleagues.
You will also be able to support on the day by visiting picket lines.
