Information update for CSP NI members following the announcement of new restrictions issued by the Executive on 14th October 2020.
The CSP Belfast team and the NI CSP Board would like to reassure all CSP members in Northern Ireland that on thorough reading of the restrictions issued by the Executive on the morning of the 14th October, we see minimal restriction to physiotherapy services. The only area of restriction would be where physiotherapy is delivered in a class setting. Where the class is for general wellbeing (such as general Pilates) then that activity should cease and you should consider digital or other delivery models. Where the class is the only way to deliver physiotherapy treatment then with appropriate distancing, PPE and other infection control procedures in place this can continue. As per the existing CSP guidance, all other practice can continue given appropriate risk assessment. The CSP has a sample risk assessment process available here should you wish to use it. Where the patient, condition, setting, and equipment is appropriate, virtual physiotherapy should be considered.
The CSP continues to be in regular contact with the Public Health Agency (PHA) to ensure we share the most up to date PPE guidance with our members. Current PPE guidance for Northern Irish members differs subtly to that of CSP members elsewhere in the UK, with NI members not following the high, medium and low risk categories but the table system. However, the PPE to be worn is almost identical across decision pathways. Full details can be found on the PHA website here and some accompanying FAQs on PPE on the CSP website here.
We continue to lobby the Executive and other stakeholders on all issues affecting our members including business insurance and rates relief. We are also in regular contact with the Executive about the acute challenge of the extended school break on our key worker members with children. The Executive confirmed today that schools will be closed for ALL children for 2 weeks. We will report back to you all with any progress in those discussions as they unfold.
As ever the CSP team based in Belfast and at HQ in London are here to support members, but particularly in these ongoing most difficult times. If you have queries then please contact the appropriate teams:
- For issues regarding professional practice (e.g. PPE) then please contact us here
- For issues about your membership please contact us here
- For issues about employment relations please contact us here
- And as per previous email, for issues related to loss of physio space please contact us here
Stay safe everyone.
