A family of physios, and their colleagues, have received a local business award for their private practice in Bangor in Co Down, Northern Ireland.
Jenny Archer and her team won the Best Family Business award at this year’s Bangor Business Awards, held at the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel in Bangor in October.
Mrs Archer works at the practice with her daughters, physiotherapists Susan Curran and Alice Pringle, her niece Victoria Scott, head of domiciliary services, and her husband and practice manager Paul Archer, who recently retired as chair of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Trust.
‘I hope this (award) proves that independent physiotherapy practices must move into the business community, helping to keep individuals mobile and healthy, and contributing to the smooth running of commerce and industry,’ Mrs Archer told Frontline.
She also paid tribute to the support of David Reaney, a rehab exercise expert, the practices’ physiotherapy associates, junior staff and students.
‘Together, we provide a diverse physiotherapy service that includes specialist treatment of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions, and my daughters have also developed Bangor Physiofix Ergonomics, which undertakes display screen equipment assessments for many big companies in Northern Ireland.’
She added that she has recently completed research into primary stroke prevention and has also been awarded an MA in Medical Ethics and Law from Queens University Belfast, which was proving to be ‘of great benefit to the medico-legal side of the practice’.
Mrs Archer set up the practice 40 years ago and it now has five treatment rooms and a gymnasium for Tai Chi and Pilates.
Although they don’t work at her practice, Mrs Archer’s sister, June Hanna, her other niece Rachael Jones and her uncle Billy McFall all qualified as physiotherapists as well.
