Six physiotherapists who presented posters at this year’s Physiotherapy UK conference have received a one-year subscription to an online Elsevier journal.
The CSP’s outstanding poster awards recognised the winners and runner ups in three conference categories.
Karen Poole, a consultant AHP in rehabilitation at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, triumphed in the Rehab Matters category with a poster titled ‘The meaning of Botulinum Toxin for Adults living with Long Term Neurological Conditions: A hermeneutic study’.
Laura Knowles, who works at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, received a runner up award for a poster that outlined ‘An evaluation of nurses´ experiences of short-term physiotherapy teaching on a trauma and orthopaedic unit in Ethiopia.’
Martin Thomas, a researcher at the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre at Keele University, won in the musculoskeletal category for a poster titled ‘Treatments of exercise and orthotic devices for plantar heel pain: the TREADON feasibility and pilot study’.
Sarah Fish, a clinical specialist rheumatology physio at Lancashire Care NHS Trust, received a runner-up award for her ‘Pilot of an advanced practitioner physiotherapist to improve the triage process and assess patients with non-inflammatory conditions in Rheumatology’.
Nicola Akehurst, an advanced practice physio at Royal Free London NHS Trust, was named a winner in the primary care and workforce transformation category for a poster on ‘A specialist led back pain service in primary care. Advanced Practice Physiotherapists (APP) working as first contact practitioners (FCPs).'
And Tim Noblet, a consultant MSK physio at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Trust, received a runner-up award for his poster ‘Clinical and cost-effectiveness of non-medical prescribing: a systematic review of randomised controlled trials.’
Abstracts of all posters accepted for Physiotherapy UK 2018 will be published in an upcoming online supplement of the Physiotherapy journal.
