A physiotherapist has become the first allied health professional (AHP) to graduate from a new training programme run by a prestigious US university.

Gita Ramdharry was a student on the first UK Clinical Scholars Research Training Programme, which was run by Harvard Medical School, part of Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr Ramdharry, an associate professor at Kingston and St George’s University of London, is a specialist neuromuscular physio at the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases at University College London Hospitals.
She explained that the course was based in the UK and delivered in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians, Imperial College and University College London.
‘It was a six-month intensive programme of research skills development including biostatistics, ethics, epidemiology and clinical trials,’ she said.
‘The course was developed for our medical and dental colleagues, but as the exception of the cohort, I realised it would be highly applicable to post-doctoral AHPs interested in clinical trials.’
The training included 50 online lectures and 10 webinars, hosted by the Harvard faculty, and two face-to-face workshops that took place in London.
Dr Ramdharry featured in Frontline’s ‘3-minutes-with…’ series in December 2015.
