Seasonal greetings: Lynn Eaton looks forward to Xmas

The year is drawing to a close and, with the holiday ahead, no doubt everyone will be looking forward to some down time.

But the prospect of any Christmas presents for the physiotherapy profession – particularly those members working in the NHS – looks slim.

As Frontline went to press the government had just announced spending plans for the NHS in 2016-17.

The good news is we’re going to see the money promised for NHS spending arrive a little sooner than expected. But the down side is that other budget heads will suffer – not least, public health and higher education, along with the potential shift to student loans rather than bursaries (see page 8/9).

In what’s set to be a challenging year ahead, the CSP will continue to fight for members, both in the NHS and the independent sector.

As our review of this year (pages 32-3) shows, the society has already been busy on a number of fronts, and in all four countries.

Whether it’s been our hugely successful Workout at Work Day in June, highlighting the role of physios in occupational settings, or negotiating a number of recognition deals in the private sector, you know the society is batting for its members. But we can only do it with your support and engagement – something that can feel difficult when you’ve enough pressures already in your workplace or home life.

So, have a peaceful year end, and come back refreshed for a challenging 2016, with support from Frontline and the CSP.

And if you’re looking for some yuletide cheer, why not buy the NHS Christmas song and push it to number one (see page 8/9)?
